The original makers mark is all but obliterated, between the lost material around the waist, and the arc welding done to it.

The number after the 8 has a curve on top, so it's a 2, 3, 6, 8, or 9. It does have a serial number stamped on the front of the foot, anyone have a copy of Anvils in America handy to look it up for me? It looks like it's 112(1?)8? I'm not sure if there's a digit between the 2 and the 8, or if it's a chisel mark. (I really need to pick up a cheap scale if i'm gonna keep buying anvils.) It's about 29" from heel to horn, 4.5" wide face, and 12" tall. Postman says he has seen several brands with a small Hay-Budden mark below the hardware store logo. Arm & Hammers do not go over about 52,000. If it starts with an A, it would be an H-B. If you see a series of numbers (serial number) on the front foot, it is almost certainly to be a Trenton, Hay-Budden or Arm & Hammer. And once I got it home, looked at it a bit more carefully, I'm leaning towards about 180 lbs. Tom it is likely a Hay-Budden (with the exception of some manufacturer who put out 50 pounders with a hourglass depression also).
