I need a way to tell the external and already-running "powerd" process to clear the "PreventUserIdleDisplaySleep" assertion that it manages. Install older OS X onto an external drive. I feel that the reliability of iMessages appearing in the mac Message app has improved from 10.8.0 to 10.8.2. I know about IOPMLib, but the routines within that library only seem to be able to clear power assertions that have been created within the same process.
